San Clemente 73 Villa Park 47 San Clemente Tritons JV met the Villa Park Spartans on Saturday night to square off for the Dana Hills JV tournament final. Early on it looked like it was going to be a classic battle as both teams worked hard for their points. The Tritons eeked out a two point lead over the Spartans after the first quarter going up 17-15 after the first 8 minutes. San Clemente started to break down Villa Park with some much needed fast break points and some muscle in the paint. The defense was once again on point holding the Spartans to 10 points for the second quarter. The Tritons took a 36-25 lead into halftime. Andrew Herbert picked up a chaperone to start the second half which set up other Tritons that were more than happy to help out. With their leading scorer dragging around some extra weight, San Clemente still managed to out-score Villa Park and led 48-36 after three. Then, once again, the rain came. Quadrupling the number of threes of the previous three quarters combined (there was only 1 three point shot for the Tritons in the first three quarters), Harris and Cuevas combined dropped four threes in the fourth on the way to a 73-47 tournament final victory. Berk Harris led all Triton scorers with 14 followed by Andrew Herbert with 13. Other Tritons in on the offensive effort were: Monshietehadi (8), Tomlinson (8), Regalado (7), Sherrell (7), Herrod (6), Cuevas (6) and Gerkin (4). |
