SC 73, El Toro 43 In their final games of their sophomore season, the team’s balanced scoring allowed the sophomore Tritons to dominate El Toro from the opening tip to the final whistle. Enrique Oviedo and Cade Dewey tied for team-high points with 11 each. For the second game in a row, the sophomores had a 30-point fourth quarter lead and Coach Eric O’Toner went deep into the bench putting in 4th-string point guard and backup center Will King to run the offense. King displayed his handles on his first possession driving into the lane for an easy layup. The season and game ended with King driving left and getting the assist as his pin-point pass found team manager Zack Cadoff all alone in the left corner. Cadoff drained the three as time expired to end a great season. The sophomores finished second in league at 5-3 and 18-5 overall. Aliso Niguel 53
San Clemente 49 The Triton sophomores lost a a close one last Friday night versus Aliso Niguel High School. The sophs were behind most the first half, by as much as 10 points at times, but at halftime trailed by 5, 26-21. The second half started the same with AN building their lead to 34-23 early in the third period, but then the sophomores woke up. Led by Kai Oshiro, the sophomores went on a 17-0 run. Oshiro hit 2 threes during that run as the sophomores led at the end of 3 periods 40-36. The fourth quarter went back and fourth but a questionable offensive foul called with 27 seconds to go and AN up 51-49 ended the sophomores hopes as they fall to 4-3 in league and 16-5 overall. Tesoro 55 The Triton sophomores made ten threes on their way to a great victory over league rival Tesoro. The first half was a struggle defensively with the Tritions giving up easy shots as they fell behind by as much as ten in the first half. A late burst cut the lead to a 5 point halftime deficit half. The halftime score was 37 -32. But the second half was differnt stor as the Tritons outscored Tesoro by 18 in the second half and wore them out. The sophomores are now 3 -2 in league and 15 - 4 overall. Caiden Donham returned to fill in for injured Ben Hegewald sidelined with a knee injury and had 25 hitting 5 three pointers. Kyle Sroka scored a season high 23 points making 4 three pointers. Tritons never trailed and finished strong hitting their free throws down the stretch. Tritons were led by Cade Dewey with 21 points. Tesoro 54 San Clemente 31 Tritons struggles to score and hurt the cause with large amount of turnovers. Tough way to start league. Kyle Sroka led the way with 13. Troy 38 The sophomore Triton basketball team played great defense trouncing Troy, High School from Fullerton 68 to 38. Coach Eric used his entire bench in the first quarter as the sophomores rolled. San Clemente 39 With no player in double figures, a cold shooting Triton sophomore team lost to rival Dana Hills 53 to 39. Trey Torticill led the sophomores with 9 points.
The Triton sophomores suffered their first lost of the season in the semi-finals of the Laguna Hills Tournament, losing to Trabuco Hills 72-58. In a game closer than the score, a hot-shooting Mustangs team hit their free throws in the final minutes for the final margin. Trey Torticll and Ben Hegewald let the Tritons with 13 point each; Cade Dewey added 10 points.
The sophomores will play Mission Viejo in the consolation game next. The Triton Sophomore won their pool defeating JSerra in the Laguna Hills Tournament. JSerra transfer Cade Dewey put up 20 points versus his former team to lead all scorers with 20 points. Coach Eric O'Toner proudly boasted "everyone on the team scored and everyone played great".

With the Tritons facing Aliso Niguel for the second time this season, the Tritons came out flat with turnovers, foul trouble, and poor execution. Tritons were down by 12 in the middle of the 2nd quarter and that continued until the middle of the third when the Tritons came alive, creating turnovers, and making shots. Tritons took the lead with 5 minutes left in the 4th led by Ben Hegewald with 21 points and Kyle Sroka 12 points. Key contributions from post players Trey Torticill, Will King, and Brennen Garff opened up the game and put the game out of reach with a 5 point margin winning 59-54.
SCHS Sophmores defeat Servite 57-39
After a close first half filled with turnovers, missed free throws and layups, caused the Tritons to be down 14-12 in at the end of the first quarter. A last second three pointer by Cade Dewey to close out the first half with a five point lead 25-20. Tritons pressured Servite to take a double digit lead quickly in the third. Outstanding play by Kyle Sroka with 18 points and Ben Hegewald with 15 points, put the game out of reach. Everyone was able to play and many players made contributions. Alex Anawalt 8pts Brennen Garff 5 pts Trey Torticill 4 points The sophomores roll into the finals of the Capo Valley tournament with a 48-43 victory against Trabuco Hills. 7 first half three propel the sophs to a 26-21 halftime lead as they hit 11 3's for the game.
DONAM 16, DEWEY 12, SROKA 8, HEGEWALD 5, OSHIRO 3, GARFF 2, HIROU 2 Cade Dewey hit 2 first quarter 3 pointers as the sophomores jumped out to an early 16-2 lead and cruised to a 58-29 win versus Capo Valley in their first game of the Capo Valley tournament.
