| San Clemente 60 Mission Viejo 58 OT The Triton Sophomores played Mission Viejo in the Laguna Hills tournament in the consolation final Saturday night and won in overtime 60-58. Jumping out to an early 14-5, the Diablos fought back and lead at halftime, 30-27. SC lead at the end of the third quarter 36-35 and was able to build that lead to 48-42 behind big frees throws by Brennan Garff, but a hot shooting Diablo team was able to hit a 25 footer with 5 seconds to go to tie the game at 51 and force overtime. In overtime SC Trey Torticill hit a big three to tie the game and Cade Dewey was 4 for 4 from the free throw line in the final minute to preserve the victory for the sophomores. SC 56 Marina 55 Marina 55 The Tritons won the 3rd Place Championship of the Tustin Classic over Marina 56-55. San Clemente led the entire game, at times by double digits, behind a well-balanced scoring attack. Jacob Nemeth and Anthony Smetona both had 11 points and were also named to the All Tournament Team for their outstanding play all week. Jay Baggs scored the game’s first 7 points and finished with 9. The Triton sophomores suffered their first lost of the season in the semi-finals of the Laguna Hills Tournament, losing to Trabuco Hills 72-58. In a game closer than the score, a hot-shooting Mustangs team hit their free throws in the final minutes for the final margin. Trey Torticll and Ben Hegewald let the Tritons with 13 point each; Cade Dewey added 10 points.
The sophomores will play Mission Viejo in the consolation game next. The Triton Frosh A team beat Tesoro 54-42 to win the El Toro Tournament. The Tritons ran through Fountain Valley, Capo Valley and J Serra on their way to the championship game, where they dominated Tesoro for the win.

J Serra 52 San Clemente Tritons JV met the J Serra Lions on Thursday night for the third time this season in their second game of the Dana Hills tournament. When you're not scoring you've got to play defense. That lesson was learned and adjustments were made after the Tritons found themselves losing to the Lions after the first quarter 20-11. San Clemente kept the Lions to 8 points in the second while lighting up the twine with Berk Harris and Andrew Herbert teaming up for a combined 19 points in the second quarter. The Tritons regained the lead by halftime 33-28 and didn't look back. The lead was extended to 51-38 after 3 quarters. The Tritons caged the Lions with a 64-52 final. Laguna Hills 50 San Clemente Tritons JV opened the Dana Hils JV tournament on Wednesday with a match up against the Laguna Hills Hawks. With the usual starters waiting in the wings, the Tritons went to their bench to start. San Clemente ground out a 5 point lead after the first quarter 14-9 and finished the half up 6 with a 27-21 score. The usual starters were unleashed on the Hawks at the start of the second half and they proceeded to open up a comfortable 48-32 lead. The bench closed out the game with their own display of offensive prowess by matching the starters' output of 21 points for the fourth quarter. The Tritons take down the Hawks with a final score of 69-50. Gavin Cuevas lead all scorers with 14 points and was the only Triton in double figures. Additional scoring was provided by Ashe (9), Sherrell (8), Rex (7), Harris (6), Donam (5), Carlin (5), Herbert (4), Herrod, (4), Tomlinson (3), Monshietehadi (2), Gerkin (2). Facing a ranked opponent in the Tustin Classic Semi-Finals, the Triton Varsity team got off to a slow start and, despite a furious rally, was unable to recover. Down 17-6 after the first quarter, 31-17 at half and by as much as 23 in the second half, San Clemente finally found its game and rallied to bring the game within 4 with under 2 minutes to play. A group led by Nick Martino, who hit a key 3-pointer, Mario Medrano, Luke Powell, Jay Baggs and a combination of Josh Walker and Max Marshall, helped lead the Tritons back toward the end of the 3rd and into the 4th quarter. The Tritons caught fire in the 4th, scoring 25 points behind four 3-pointers by Jacob Nemeth, but ultimately could not climb out of the hole created by the first three quarters. Scoring for San Clemente were Nemeth with 20, Walker 8, Marshall and Baggs 6, Martino 5, Smetona, Medrano and Ihani 2.
San Clemente withstood a furious press from a quick Compton team to win and advance to the Tustin Classic Semifinals. The Tritons started strong and got out to a 20-8 lead to end the first quarter. A slow second quarter saw Compton tie the game at 21-21, before a pair of Jacob Nemeth 3-pointers and an 8 point run to end the half put the Tritons up 29-21 at the break. The second half was more of the same, as San Clemente pulled ahead, only to have Compton claw back to within striking range. An all-around strong game by the Triton Varsity team finally ended the threat, and the game finished with a 53-49 victory. Nemeth led the scoring with 18. Anthony Smetona had his mid-range shot going and finished with 11. An even distribution of scoring also included Baggs and Egbert with 5, Walker and Marshall with 4, Kane, Martino and Ihani with 2.
San Clemente varsity pulled away late for a 70-61 win over a solid Buena Park team in the opening round of the Tustin Classic tournament. A trio of double digit scorers paced the Tritons, including Senior Jacob Nemeth with 20, Sophomore Spencer Egbert with 18 and Senior Chris Kane with 13. Anthony Smetona hit a key 3-pointer to start the late run, and finished with 7. Big men Josh Walker (9 points) and Max Marshall (3 points) controlled the inside and had several blocked shots.
The Triton Sophomore won their pool defeating JSerra in the Laguna Hills Tournament. JSerra transfer Cade Dewey put up 20 points versus his former team to lead all scorers with 20 points. Coach Eric O'Toner proudly boasted "everyone on the team scored and everyone played great".

The sophomore advance to the winner's bracket and will play Trabuco Hills on Friday. The Triton varsity team overcame a sluggish first half of offense to pull away in the second and beat Godinez 54-36. Team defense was solid throughout, and held Godinez to just 12 points in the first half. The team was led by seniors Max Marshall with 10 points and 2 blocks, Chris Kane with 8 points and 9 rebounds, and Jacob Nemeth with 8 points and 5 assists.

A solid defensive effort and some great play inside led the Tritons to the Consolation Championship over Edison in the Irvine World News Tournament. Josh Walker set the tone early against Edison’s big-man with both power and finesse and led the Tritons with 12 points. When Walker came out, Max Marshall stepped in and stepped up, and added 6 points. Spencer Egbert was the other Triton in double figures, with 10. Medrano contributed a bloody nose and 7 points, Kane 6, Nemeth 5, Baggs 4 and Smetona 2 San Clemente 55 Irvine 54
The Triton Varsity team was down 54-52 with 4 seconds on the clock and needed to go the full-length of the court. After getting the play from Coach Popovich, Jay Baggs stood under his own basket and threw a half-court strike to Chris Kane at mid-court. Kane dished the ball to Jacob Nemeth streaking up the right side, who took a quick dribble and pulled-up for a deep three that found the bottom of the net for the victory! A sloppy game with a great ending and another win for the surging Tritons. Nemeth finished with 11, Walker 10, Ihani 7, Smetona 6, Baggs and Egbert 5, Marshall 4, Kane 4, Martino 2 and Medrano 1.
San Clemente's JV squad met up with the Tesoro Titans Saturday night for the final of the Aliso Niguel JV Classic. The game was everything you would expect from a final and didn't disappoint. McClay Gibbons stepped into the rotation and lit the fuse with a good-look three point shot. The Tritons and Titons battled for supremacy throughout the first quarter with San Clemente shooting to a first quarter 13-7 lead. San Clemente continued to defend and shoot well, extending their lead by the half to a 27-19 lead. When a team drops 18 points against you in a quarter that is usually a predictor of bad things to come, especially when they do it to you two quarters in a row. Tesoro pounded out 18 points against San Clemente in both the third and fourth quarter with only one three point shot to make it a 36 point second half for them. Despite donating 11 points to Tesoro from the charity stripe in the second half, San Clemente still managed to pull away, channeling their namesake with a wave of threes including three in the second half from McClay Gibbons. San Clemente took the Tritons-Titons battle with a 67-55 final. Andrew Herbert lead all scorers with 21 followed by Ethan Sherrell (16) and McClay Gibbons (14). Additional scoring was provided by Monshietehadi (5), Gerkin (5), Herrod (3), Tomlinson (2) and Harris (1).
No slow start this time. The San Clemente Tritons JV met up with the Trabuco Hills Mustangs in a semi-final matchup Thursday night. The Tritons opened with a mix of offensive and defensive weapons ready to face the fast running Mustangs. The Mustangs like to run. The Tritons crushed that. The Tritons like to shoot. They did. At the end of the first quarter the lead was 10 with San Clemente up 17-7. Trabuco Hills, not to be contained, returned the favor and chomped away at the Triton lead to come within 4 by halftime trailing San Clemente 27-23. An explosive third quarter from the Tritons both in the paint and beyond the arc broke the game open. Micah Regalado quietly did his work inside while the trio of Harris, Sherrell and Herbert provided air support from outside. At the end of the third quarter San Clemente saw it's lead extended to 14 leading 48-34. The Triton defense was there whenever the Mustangs tried to break free. San Clemente finally tamed the Mustangs with the final score 60-44. Andrew Herbert led all scorers with 32 points. Micah Regalado was the only other Triton in double figures with 11. Other scoring was provided by Harris (8), Gerkin (4), Sherrell (3) and Carlin (2).
